How much can you actually see through a semi-privacy fence?

Around 85 percent of the view is blocked. Straight on the yard reads as screened, only slivers at a sharp angle, while breeze and daylight pass. It lands in the middle, between a solid privacy panel and this same panel opened wide.

The slats sit close, and that finger-width gap is the dial, tighter for more cover, wider for the see-through look. Underneath is 6063-T6 aluminum, powder-coated to shrug off rust and repainting, commonly cited at 20 to 30 years, an industry figure, not our warranty. Fully hidden? Our aluminum privacy fence. Open view? Same panel, wider gap.

Who a semi-privacy fence suits, and when it is the wrong call

Semi-privacy fits a boundary you want screened but still breezy: a side yard along the neighbor’s wall, a run past an AC condenser or pool-equipment pad, a hot inland yard where a solid wall traps heat, or a line where a full wall trips an HOA rule. It keeps a larger dog in while it still sees the street.

Where it is the wrong call, we say so. Full seclusion means an aluminum privacy fence. The wide-open look stays here. A pool is a no: a semi screen is not built to California’s pool-safety barrier standard, so a pool needs a dedicated barrier, which we build separately.

Built and installed to your height, not shipped as a kit

Every semi-privacy result online ships as an un-assembled panel or a flat-packed kit to bolt together yourself. That is the gap we fill. A salesperson measures the run, then the shop fabricates the slat panels to the exact height you need. Heights are made to order, roughly 2 to 12 feet, a typical yard fence near 6 feet.

Posts sink into the ground or bolt to a surface base; on a tall or exposed run a concealed 16-gauge steel core seats inside the aluminum post and still reads as aluminum. The unusual heights and small jobs many crews turn down are often the ones we take on.

Where the aluminum comes from: our SleekFence partnership

The panels are built on SleekFence aluminum, a premium-class fencing brand registered in the USA. PVAF is an authorized SleekFence installer and partner: their material, our custom fabrication and install.

It is modern architectural aluminum, powder-coated to a Qualicoat Class 1 and AAMA 2603 finish and rated ASTM E84 Class A for flame and smoke. The material warranty runs 20 years on the aluminum, 10 on the coating, and 2 on the steel core, plus our own 5-year workmanship.

Does a slatted panel handle wind and a sloped lot?

It does, and the slats help. Because the gaps let part of the wind slip through instead of catching it, a semi run puts less load on the posts than a solid wall, and a wider gap catches even less. The middle, again. Across most of the Greater Los Angeles basin, code design wind sits near 95 to 105 mph, and aluminum clears that with room to spare; a taller or exposed line picks up the steel core.

Slope is the other question. A pre-assembled panel cannot bend to a hillside, so on a grade it steps down in stages, each step leaving a small gap at the low end. Because the panels are cut to your lot, the run follows your grade, steps kept even and tight.

What drives the cost of a semi-privacy fence?

An installed price rides on a few things: height, run length, screening level, gate count, the posts plus any steel cores, and the ground and slope. A wider gap means fewer slats and less aluminum than a tight one, both well under a full privacy wall, so the price follows. Aluminum is the premium material, a step above budget-friendly vinyl; the choice is about look and lifespan, not better or worse.

A store panel price rarely matches a fully installed one, so a firm number waits on a free on-site visit, with financing through Synchrony at nothing down. Local rules can apply too: in the City of LA a non-masonry fence needs a building permit only above 10 feet, and rules vary by city, so check with your local building department.

Color Across the Slats

Gaps change how a finish reads, because you see slat edges and the background behind them at once. Black lets the pattern recede. White draws the line. Wood grain warms it. Three options, far fewer than vinyl carries, every one of them powder coat cured onto the metal.
